Who can apply?
Young people aged 18 to 25 from the Nordic and Baltic countries, as well as Ukraine and Belarus. Refugees and those living in exile from Ukraine and Belarus are especially welcome, even if you are currently abroad. We also welcome any student who is curious to take part.

Do I need specific experience to join?
No. Motivation and openness are the most important. You do not need to be an expert. Civic AF* is designed for people from all backgrounds.

How do I apply?
Applications are submitted through the online form (link on the “Register” page). You will be asked about your motivation, interests, and background.

Is it only available for students?
No. Civic AF* welcomes everyone aged 18 to 25, regardless of their current status. You can be a student, employed, between jobs, or simply curious to join.

Is there a participation fee?
No. Participation in Civic AF* is free of charge. All costs are covered by the Nordic Council of Ministers and the project organisers.

What costs are covered?
Accommodation, meals, learning activities, and the final event are fully covered during the on-site residency in Latvia.

Do I need to pay for travel?
Participants usually arrange and cover their own travel. Limited support may be available for those with fewer opportunities. You can indicate this in your application.

What is the programme structure?
The programme has two stages:
A 5-day online programme open to up to 300 participants, welcoming motivated youth as well as any student who would like to join.
A 5-day on-site residency in Latvia for 20 of the most motivated participants.

What happens in the online programme?
You will join interactive workshops, creative labs, and talks with artists, psychologists, coaches, and media experts. The focus is on personal resilience, creativity, and shaping first ideas for projects.

What happens in the on-site residency?

You will dive deeper into storytelling, creative activism, and media work, co-create projects with peers, and share your ideas in a festive final event.

What topics are explored?
Civic AF* explores mental well-being, resilience, media literacy, tackling disinformation, civic participation, creative activism, migration and inclusion, sustainability, and gender equality.

Do I need to speak English?

Yes, English is the main working language. You do not need to be perfect, just comfortable communicating.

When does the project take place?
Applications open in autumn 2025. The online programme takes place later in 2025, followed by the on-site residency at Lūznava Manor and guesthouse Svilpaunieki.

How many people will be selected for the residency?
From the online group, 20 of the most motivated participants will be invited to the on-site residency.

What makes a strong participation?
Show motivation, curiousity, and openness to learn and collaborate. Civic AF* values diversity, so we welcome different experiences and perspectives.
